Rebuilding Ouffut Air Force Base
After a series of natural disasters nearly destroyed a town, a rapid rebuilding effort protected the entire community with secure, impact resistant roofs.
A town without a roof
In the summer of 2017, two tornadoes raced through Offutt Air Force Base in Bellevue, Nebraska, causing $20 million in damage. A hailstorm struck soon after, compromising nearly every roof in the 2,000-home community.
Quickly restoring homes with minimal interruption to residents’ lives was paramount, as was instilling confidence in a shaken community.
Restored and reassured
GAF was central to the rapid rebuild. Hustad Roofing, a GAF Master Elite® Contractor, joined forces with the real estate management team to lead the effort.
In light of the disasters, the team knew enhanced impact resistant shingles were a must. They chose Timberline® ArmorShield™ II SBS Modified IR Shingles, which combine unmatched beauty with the industry’s toughest impact-resistance. The rebuild required nearly four million square feet of materials, but the team completed 35 to 40 duplex roofs a day and restored the community in just three months.
